Tips to maintain your posture when you’re out on the road all day

We all know that driving for long periods at a time can be stressful on the mind and the body. With road rage, traffic and unexpected weather, driving can make people feel tense at the best of times. At Mantello PEUGEOT, we think that driving can (and should) be enjoyable.

When you’re perfectly positioned in your seat, the steering wheel is at the right height and you’re not performing yoga moves just to reach the pedals, you’ll have better posture and feel more relaxed to take on whatever challenges are thrown at you.

So how can you maintain great posture when you’re out on the road all day? Here are our top good posture tips for when you’re behind the wheel.

Get comfortable

Good posture when driving all starts with being comfortable from the get-go. Taking a few extra minutes before you start your journey (even before a short trip) can make all the difference to your driving experience and really help to improve your posture.

Start with sitting up straight with your knees just a little higher than your hips and pull in your chin so that your head is sitting straight above your spine.

Empty your pockets of anything that could affect your alignment, and ultimately your driving posture. That means taking out bulky items like keys, your wallet and your phone.

Recline your seat backwards so it’s not 100% vertical – you should feel that when you relax, your weight falls back into the seat – not forwards. Sitting too close to the steering wheel, sitting up too straight, or hunching over will more likely cause bad posture and back problems on long journeys.

At Mantello PEUGEOT, we have a wide range of new and used vehicles that offer completely ergonomic driving experiences. The upgraded PEUGEOT i-Cockpit™ featured in the PEUGEOT 3008 SUV ensures ergonomic driving in every single trip.

Want to ensure even more comfort? The PEUGEOT 508 offers seats with a multipoint massage function so that your back is always taken care of.

Adjust your mirrors

Great posture when driving isn’t just about getting relaxed into your seat. Fine-tuning things around you can mean you really are comfortable on whatever journey you’re on.

You can prevent neck and back strain by making sure your rear-view and side mirrors are adjusted to perfection. You should be able to see the traffic around you without having to strain your neck.

Take breaks

Even when your posture feels perfect on a long trip, your body can still experience fatigue from sitting in one position for too long. Taking regular rest stops will take the pressure off your back and give you a chance to stretch.

Whether you’re popping to the shops or going on a weekend camping trip, ensuring that your body is taken care of should be a top priority. Correct posture can decrease the probability of back pain and keep your spine in optimum health.
